Many individuals with disabilities rely on pets for companionship and unconditional love.  Having limited mobility or other disabilities can pose challenges in caring for a pet.  Chewy.com is an on-line pet store that can be beneficial resource to pet owners with disabilities.

I rely on my caregivers for assistance in caring for my cat, Sully.  They feed him and keep the litter box clean for me.  Once I tried to feed Sully by myself and it was a disaster!  It literally looked like a cat food bomb went off in my kitchen!  My mom does all the shopping for Sully’s supplies as well.  Chewy.com allows me to take that task off my mom’s to-do list!

Chewy.com is an on-line pet store that offers free delivery for orders over $49.  They also offer reduced prices for auto-ship orders.  This takes the brainwork out of keeping your pet well stocked.  You can change the auto-ship date anytime and cancel it at any time.

Chewy.com offers a large variety pet foods and supplies. They have supplies for dogs, cats, horses, fish, retiles, birds and other small animals.  Chewy.com offers many brands such as Blue Buffalo, Science Diet, Purina, and Iams.  They also offer items like puppy pads/carpet cleaner, animal cages, toys and grooming supplies. Chewy.com has 24/7 customer service available.  This makes it easy to resolve any service or shipping issues.

Being able to order from Chewy.com allows individuals with disabilities to be more independent in pet ownership.  There is no need to travel to a store for pet supplies or have to worry about carrying and lifting heavy bags of food.  This also lifts the burden from caregivers and opens up their time to do other things.

One disadvantage of Chewy.com is having to make sure the order is place before running out of supplies.  It has been my experience in the two times I have ordered from Chewy.com, that the packages arrive within 3 days of ordering or less.  Using the auto-ship, one has to make sure that there is money in the account to cover the shipment.  Additionally, while some of the prices are competitive, some items can be more expensive.  It is important to check out Chewy.com’s daily deals to make sure you are getting your money’s worth.  I purchased cat litter from Chewy.com on sale for $10.99, the same litter was selling at Walmart.com for $12.44.  However, the litter was on sale at Chewy.com.  The original price was over $20.  To get the most for your money, it is best to compare the prices before purchasing.

I have taken advantage of the auto-ship option. I make sure to check out the prices before the shipment date to ensure I am getting the most bang for my buck.  Regardless of having to keep an eye on the prices and the auto-ship status, I think this website is worth it.  I never have to rely on a caregiver to go to the store for me to make sure Sully has all that he needs.  I also don’t have to burden my caregivers with lifting and carrying heavy bags of food and litter.  Chewy.com allows me to be a more proactive and responsible pet owner.

If only I could figure a way to take care of Sully’s vet visit on-line, I would be in pet owner heaven!  Sully freaks out whenever placed in his carrier.  Last vet visit resulted in one stinky cat and one stinky van ride.  Plain and simple, it was a cat-astrophe, pun intended!

I encourage all pet owners to check out Chewy.com.  I think you will appreciate the time-saving and convenient way of buying pet supplies.  I think you will also appreciate the extra savings of their daily deals.

Until next time, Keep Rollin’ and Keep Smilin’.
